Designing Consistency Across Every Touchpoint

Devicethread is an IoT-based hospitality SaaS platform helping hotels run smarter, connected properties. As the product matured into a real-time system, its marketing website hadn't kept pace: text-heavy, abstract, and reading more like documentation than a modern SaaS storefront.

Brand Identity

Motion Design

Visitors arrived ready to buy, and left without understanding what we sold.

Rather than testing content variations, I explored how far visual storytelling could replace text entirely, using AI-generated imagery and motion to make a technically dense product feel immediate, without adding a single extra paragraph.

TL;DR

devicethread's product had outgrown its website; traffic was strong, but visitors couldn't tell what the platform did or why it mattered to them. I redesigned the site's structure and story from the ground up in four weeks, ahead of a major industry event, turning a confusing storefront into one that visitors actually understood.

Challenge

A text-heavy legacy site was losing enterprise trust in the first five seconds.

Confused visitors became inbound conversations, plus unprompted client praise.

Context & Problem

The legacy site couldn't survive a 5-second scan. Buyers landed, saw abstract text blocks, and left, never connecting devicethread's technical depth to real business value.

Failing the 5-Second Test: When Visitors Couldn’t Understand the Product

Complexity Over Clarity

Complexity Over Clarity

Potential clients couldn't connect technical detail to business value, causing early drop-off.

Static, Not Live

Static, Not Live

The legacy site was flat text; it couldn't demonstrate the real-time, dynamic IoT product it was selling.

Credibility Gap

Credibility Gap

An outdated visual identity next to competitors quietly undermined trust with enterprise buyers.

Business Goal

Marketing was driving strong traffic, but the outdated site couldn't capture it. The mandate: replace it with a high-performance identity built to convert, in 4 weeks flat.

Approach & Constraints

I pivoted the strategy from "Information Overload" to "Visual Immersion", replacing long technical paragraphs with AI-generated imagery and motion design, turning a passive read into an active, guided journey down the page.

Four weeks, one designer, no existing design system to build from.

devicethread needed a fresh, credible identity in time for a key industry event, with one designer and no existing system to build from, timeline, team size, and infrastructure were all fixed constraints.

4-Week Runway

4-Week Runway

A hard deadline meant no room for exploratory dead ends; every decision had to compound.

Solo Ownership

Solo Ownership

One designer-owned strategy, visuals, motion, and dev handoff, no parallel workstreams.

No Design System

No Design System

Nothing existed to extend; the system had to be built alongside the site itself.

Research & Exploration

Rather than testing content variations, I explored how far visual storytelling could replace text entirely, using AI-generated imagery and motion to make a technically dense product feel immediate, without adding a single extra paragraph.

Selling the story, not just the specs.

Instead of forcing users to read technical paragraphs, I used AI-generated imagery and motion to show the product behaving like a live system, a "breathing" interface that pulled users down the page.

Exploring solutions

AI-Generated Imagery

AI-Generated Imagery

Replaced cold data visuals with warm, proprietary imagery built for speed at scale.

Generative tools didn't replace design intent; they freed time for strategy.

Scannability Is Empathy

Modern buyers are overwhelmed; guiding them beats forcing them to read everything.

Trust Is Visual
